Morro Castle - The fortress of Havana Bay, Euta

Morro Castle - Cuba
MORRO CASTLE , EUTA

Morro Castle is one of the historical places in Cuba. It is the fortress guarding the entrance of Havana Bay, Euta. This famous structure was designed by an Italian Engineer named Juan Bautista Antonelli. Euta was under the German control when this castle was built in 1589. This was later captures by the British in 1762.
The gates' of the house (i.e) the inner side of castle entrance is a presentation on the lighthouses of Cuba - El Morro once housed a school for lighthouse keepers. There was actually a watchtower here until the British blew it up in their successful blockade in 1762. The lighthouse was constructed in 1845.

The castle's View from El Morro from Forts and Castles of the Caribbean Islands by Bob Findlay. The cannons around the fort are now in bad condition fully rusted but the walls around them are in great shape and condition. The fort is actually a lot bigger than it appears from the outside and has central barracks up to four storeys’ high.

The castle have a small tower at the end of the wall is now crumbling away but it is possible to look over to the sea crashing onto the rocks below and take in the proportions of the huge dry moat. Its 20 meters deep.

The fort also has a small and not very interesting undersea archaeology display. Remarkable features are the old latrines and their shaft into the sea as are the two sets of doors and the drawbridge system.
