Argentina’s historic mansion – Villa Hortensia

Villa Hortensia is one of the famous and historic mansion house in the city of Rosario, Argentina. It was constructed back in 1890 by an architected named Boyd Walker for the founder of Alberdi, Jose Nicolas Puccio. This traditional house was then sold to Ciro Echesortu and then to Alferdo Rouillon, his wife name was Maria Hortensia Echesortu (from whom the house was named). The Rouillon’s family used it as a summer residence as the house is near to Parana River and surrounded by gardens.



In1989 this house was declared as a National Historic Monument. Before that the maintenance of the mansion was neglected and was under a serious threat of being condemned. The Municipality of Rosario acquired the villa on 30 May 1996 in order to transform it into an administrative center. Official decentralization plan was the reason behind this acquisition. Villa Hortensia was renovated with its original plan and materials and was reopened on 13 October 1997 as the first Municipal District Center.

Now the Municipal district center consists of a citizen assistance office, a delegation of the Municipal Bank of Rosario, a Marriage office and offices of the water, natural gas and power companies.

St. George El Mina Castle - The Gold Coast

Elmina Castle is one of the oldest and historic castle in Ghana. It was built in 1482 as San Jorge Mina by Portugal King Afonso V. It is also known as the Gold Coast. This Oldest European house is below the Sahara and was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea. The castle became one of the major stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade.
In 1637 the Dutch seized the Portuguese gold Coast and the fort from the Portuguese and they continued the slave trade until 1814. In 1871 the British Empire captured the Dutch Gold Coast and the fort.
The British granted independence to the Gold coast in 1957 and control of the castle transfer to the nation formed out of the colony. UNESCO recognized the castle as a World Heritage site. Now it is one of the most famous and historical house in African Continent. It is also one the major filming location.
The Elmina castle was expansively renovated by the Ghanaian government in the 1990s. The bridge leading into the castle is one of the highest precedence tasks in the project.

The Incredible City of Fatehpur Sikri - India

Fatehpur Sikri is a famous city in Agra district in Uttar Pradesh state, India. It also has some famous house and a historical place built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1570 in the honor of Sufi saint Shaikh Salim Chisti. It was originally named historical city of Fatehabad and later renamed as Fatehpur Sikri by Akbar’s son and successor Emperor Jahangir.
The building was constructed in Mughal architecture, a combination of Indian, Persian and Islamic architecture. It was the first city of the Mughals and was Mughal’s capital from1571 and 1585.
Fatehpur Sikri is 3 km long and 1 km wide. The Palace city is is surrounded by 11 km wall on three sides and the fourth side is covered by a lake. Tuhir Das was the architect of this renowned palace.  It was constructed using Red Sandstone known as Sikri sandstone. It is accesses through various famous gates namely Delhi gate, the Lal gate, the Agra gate, Birbal’s gate, Chandanpaul gate, the Gwalior gate and the Chor gate.

Ø  Buland Darwaza – The famous 54 meter high gate.
Ø  Jama Masjid – Famous Islamic Mosque.
Ø  Tomb of Salim Chisti – A White marble tomb of the Sufi saint.

Ø  Ibadat Khana – House of Worship.
Ø  Anup Talao – An Ornamental Pool.
Ø  Hujra-i-Anup Talao - The Residence of Akbar’s wife.
Ø  Mariam-uz-Zamani’s Palace – The Building of Akbar’s Wife.
Ø  Naubat Khana – Drum House.
Ø  Pachisi Court – Playing area for board games.
Ø  Panch Mahal – A five storied palatial structure.
Ø  Birbal’s House – The House of Akbar’s favorite Minister.
Fatehpur Sikri was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986 and now it is a popular tourist attraction site in India.

The Famous Port San Andres - Trinidad & Tobago

Fort San Andres in one of the oldest and famous fort built for defending Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. This historical house was originally built on the offshore rock in the harbor. It is now inland due to reclamation of surrounding land.  The fort fell in to disuse after the British captured Trinidad in 1797.
Commercial Newsroom and the harbor-master’s office were built later on the foundation of the old fort. In 1995 after the Police Service of Traffic branch vacated the building, the decision was made to restore the fort to its 1845 appearance and then it was converted in to a museum of the City of Port of Spain.
Port is a famous and historical house constructed with passion and it depicts the culture of Caribbean Islands. Several of the original cannons are still present in the fort. The Foundation of the fort bear the date 1785, but the fort may have been built as early as 1757.

Citadel of Heart is one of the historic houses in Afghanistan. It is located in the center of Heart City, the third largest city in Afghanistan. This famous place dates back to 330 BC. It was originally used as headquarters by many emperors in the last 2,000 years.
Alexander the Great built this historic citadel in 330BC after conquering the Achaemenid city. Citadel was destroyed and rebuilt so many times over the centuries and it was excavated and restored by UNIESCO between 1976 and 79. The National Museum of Heart is inside the Citadel.
In recent years the Citadel of Heart was renovated and now it consist of two walled enclosures. Many Afghan Craftsmen were involved and 2.4 million (USD) was given by U.S and German Government in this renovation activity of this famous house.
HISTORIC CONQUESTS:
  • Citadel became a seat of Christianity, with a Nestorian bishop Around 300.
  • It became part of the Hephthalite Empire Around 484.
  • It was part of the Abbasid caliphate Around 786-809.
  • In a while, it was ruled by the Tahirid dynasty.
  • The Saffarid dynasty took control After 867-869.

Morro Castle - The fortress of Havana Bay, Euta

Morro Castle is one of the historical places in Cuba. It is the fortress guarding the entrance of Havana Bay, Euta. This famous structure was designed by an Italian Engineer named Juan Bautista Antonelli. Euta was under the German control when this castle was built in 1589. This was later captures by the British in 1762.
The gates' of the house (i.e) the inner side of castle entrance is a presentation on the lighthouses of Cuba - El Morro once housed a school for lighthouse keepers. There was actually a watchtower here until the British blew it up in their successful blockade in 1762. The lighthouse was constructed in 1845.

The cannons around the fort are now in bad condition fully rusted but the walls around them are in great shape and condition. The fort is actually a lot bigger than it appears from the outside and has central barracks up to four storeys’ high.

The castle have a small tower at the end of the wall is now crumbling away but it is possible to look over to the sea crashing onto the rocks below and take in the proportions of the huge dry moat. Its 20 meters deep.

The fort also has a small and not very interesting undersea archaeology display. Remarkable features are the old latrines and their shaft into the sea as are the two sets of doors and the drawbridge system.

Blenheim Palace - Wonder of Europe

Blenheim Palace is one of the great monuments of Europe. It is located in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. It is the only place with the title of palace in England, is a non-royal, non-episcopal country house. The place is one of the largest historic houses in England, was built between 1705 and 1724.

It was originally constructed to be gifted to 1st Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill – who won the war against the French and Bavarians at the Battle of Blenheim. But it soon became the subject of political squabbling, it led to the Marlborough’s deport.

Sir John Vanbrugal was the architect of this mammoth palace and it was constructed in English Baroque Style, is a short-lived and rare design. It is a national monument, family home and mausoleum. It is the birth place of former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.

The Palace became the home of the Churchill family for 300 years and over a period of time various changes were made to the interiors, park and garden of the palace.

UNESCO recognized the Blenheim palace as a World Heritage site in 1987. Now the palace, park and gardens are open to public and the tourist from all around the globe is visiting this historic palace, tourist attractions include the butterfly house, a maze and a plant center.
